'This is a very sleepy Nico, a Harlequin Great Dane, who came to stay with us. When he laid on our living room rug he pretty much filled the whole space, to say he is a big boy is an understatement.
The title of this post "if I had a pound" refers to the comments his owner says he gets from strangers, on just about every walk he goes on. People always exclaim about Nico's size, you cant help it, its fascinating, doesn't seem possible a dog can be so big, it kind of leaves you a bit speechless. Cliches are therefore all you can muster............... and you end up stating the obvious when confronted with such an enormous beast!
I got one or two of my own when we were out walking......
The comments tickled me but I can see how it would be tedious if you hear that every day. But his size does kind of take your breath away. I was a bit disappointed to be honest, when passers by didn't want to talk about him or say hello!
We did meet a lovely man and his Bedlington Terrier Pup who wasn't at all fazed by Nico's size. The pup was maybe 10 inches from the floor, a teeny young thing. It jumped up to get a better look at Nico who leapt back on all four's and kind of high step trotted around him with his nose pressed forward in a stationary position as he pivoted round the pup. It was very funny, poor Nico didn't quite know what to make of the pup so was very gentle and cautious, aware of his size in comparison to his own. He's a clever boy.
We tried to get some photo's to show how wonderfully huge he is, I am 5ft 2" so these photo's maybe give you some indication. Please excuse the grey lounge wear, I was coming down with a cold and needed fleecy comfort!!!
A BIT ABOUT ME......
