Meet our newest recruits, these two are beautiful.
Lara (above left) is an Akita x Rottweiler, a very loving, gentle girl. Loves her treats and a gentle stroll as she is arthritic. She's very brave having been through a couple of surgeries at least. to have metal plates inserted. She is a gorgeous, fluffy, good natured 10 year old. I've taken to calling her La-La, she doesn't mind I don't think and it kind of suits her.
Sebastian (on the right) or Sebby as I have nicknamed him is a Bull Mastiff Cross, possibly with a Rhodesian Ridgeback, his owners seem to think, which is highly possible with his colouring. He's had a tough old time before he found his forever home with his lovely owners and sister Lara. He has been mistreated in the past and has the scars to show for it, so he can be a bit wary and cautious of new people. He is still a little unsure of me and wonders who I am and what I am doing with a key to their front door and letting myself in! He has a bark and a grumble at me, he is just doing his job after all of guarding the house........... but I stand calmly for a minute, nice and relaxed so he can have a good sniff and remind himself of who I am. Then I stroll confidently through the house to get their collar and leads. By this time he seems to have figured out I'm not a threat and he even starts to wag his tail when I put his collar and lead on.
Lara is more laid back and always has a bark at me that seems half-hearted then she comes over to see what treats I have for her that day.
Its such an honour to walk this wise, majestic pair of large breed dogs. Unfortunately
Akita's, Rottie's and Mastiff's don't always have good press and it's such a shame. As rescue dogs these two have so much love to give and I am very much in enamoured with them both. If their owners come home one day and find them missing they'll know where to look!
A BIT ABOUT ME......
